In summary, exploring nearby places invites us to open our minds and appreciate the abundance of wonders that surround us.

Forgotten Corners in Santa Cruz de La Palma.

Exploring the charming neighborhood of San Sebastián in Santa Cruz de La Palma is an experience that many overlook.

At first glance, it may seem like a small place.

However, recently, the City Council has launched a street map to "recover the memory of the San Sebastián neighborhood, one of the oldest and most historical in the capital of La Palma," indicating that there is still much to discover in this picturesque and beautiful corner.

Discovering History: A Call to Memory.

Since the early 20th century, it developed around the ancient Royal Path of La Banda, which connected Santa Cruz de La Palma with the Aridane Valley and the Port of Tazacorte.

This strategic location facilitated the proliferation of artisans in its streets, some of whom still maintain their workshops in operation, such as those dedicated to the crafting of figureheads and artisan carpentry, which also serve as community meeting points.

An Exclusive Space.

Due to its location, the neighborhood of San Sebastián is one of the most exclusive sectors of the historic center of Santa Cruz de La Palma, with a privileged position in one of the main commercial areas of the island.

The main streets that define the identity of the neighborhood are San Sebastián Street, Huertas Street, Dornajo Street, Fernández Ferraz Street, and Cajita Blanca Street. Since 1975, the neighborhood has been recognized as a Cultural Heritage Site in the category of Historic Ensemble.

The Sweet Charm of 'La Canela'.

And why 'La Canela'? The answer lies in the presence of several master pastry chefs in the area, who used this basic spice in the preparation of many Palmeran sweets and desserts, such as almond cheese, bienmesabe, or rapaduras, among others.

Invitation to Discover..

So the next time you find yourself in Santa Cruz de La Palma, don't miss the opportunity to explore the charming neighborhood of San Sebastián.

Immerse yourself in its picturesque streets, admire its historical architecture, and let yourself be captivated by its unique atmosphere. Who knows, you might discover a hidden treasure or simply enjoy the beauty of the everyday in this special corner of 'La Canela'.
